The Hunt name is a play on the thrill and excitement of ‘The Chase’ when riding.

Hunt Bike Wheels is just about ready for primetime. The UK-based company will be focusing on tubeless-ready road wheels and will sell its product worldwide. The effort is being led by Tom Marchment, who spent the last 12 years working with prominent bicycle companies, component brands and distributors in the UK.

“Our goal is to bring riders the latest practical technology and thinking in all things round,” explained Marchment, about a line that will initially focus on alloy rims. “Having tested tubeless extensively on and off road we know it answers many issues; noticeably improving ride quality, grip and puncture protection. We see tubeless-tires as offering the greatest benefits for year round and winter-riding when poor road conditions and punctures are a major issue.”

Other features across the Hunt line will include wide-rims (22-24mm) and disc brake options. Pricing will be in the $300-$675, with weights of 1395 to 1650 grams.

“I’ve been working with my brother Peter at his company ITS Cycling Ltd since August 2014,” explained Marchment of the new company’s genesis. “We both knew the spec of the wheels we wanted to ride ourselves but we felt they weren’t easily available from other wheel brands.”

The Hunt line will include wide-rims (22-24mm).

Thus the Hunt Bike Wheels project was started in September last year with sourcing, development and testing work being carried out throughout fall and winter. Now it’s time for the coming out party. Hunt Bike Wheels will be available to order through some local bike shops, and also on-line with low cost international shipping available. This combined business model is becoming more commonplace. Hunt believes that the efficiency it allows means they are able to invest more in the details and significantly increase the specification of each component. Direct customer service is also available on the phone, email and even in person at their UK office in Sussex if you happen to be in the neighborhood.

Of the company name Marchment says “Hunt is a play on the thrill and excitement of ‘The Chase’ when riding, however it actually originated from the drive we had to ‘Hunt’ for every improvement in the rims, hubs, spokes, bearings, nipples and QRs.”

The first wheel to be available from Hunt is a collaboration with Mason Progressive Cycles. “Some very special wheels were required for our first bikes, so we worked with Hunt,” explained Dom Mason. “They’ve developed the MASON x HUNT Four Season Disc road wheelset. It’s ideal for my four season performance bikes.”
