The reigning world champion has a strong bond with Northern California, utilizing its world class cycling as one of his key training grounds.

Reigning world road champ Peter Sagan is doing his part to help the people of Norther California, where wild fires ravaged numerous communities. On November 28, the Slovakian superstar will lead a charity ride to help raise money for victims. The event is currently full and there is no waiting list, but you can still make a donation to the cause by going to bikemonkey.net/saganrides. Here's more about the event:

It is often said that in the face of tragedy, you see the very best of human nature. Without a doubt, that is exactly what has transpired here in Sonoma County in the wake of the devastating wildfires. The magnitude of the losses experienced are unfathomable, but our community continues to answer them with strength, compassion, and generosity.

Adding his name to the cause is arguably the current best in the sport of cycling: world champion Peter Sagan. Hailing from Slovakia, Sagan has forged his own special bonds with the Golden State, racing the Tour of California every year since 2010 and using the Lake Tahoe area as his training grounds.

On Giving Tuesday, November 28, Sagan will be here in Sonoma County, to help raise funds for the fire survivors through Sonoma Pride and the King Ridge Foundation. Bike Monkey has teamed up with Osmo Nutrition, Sonoma Pride, and Trail House to put on an event giving 400 people the opportunity to ride with Sagan and witness first-hand the sorrow of the areas that were affected by the fires, as well as the beauty of the areas that were spared. After the ride will be food and celebration, and more opportunity to party with the charismatic world champion. All proceeds from this event will go to those who've lost their homes in Sonoma County.

The Sonoma Pride fundraiser, to-date has raised more than $330,000 for those affected by the Sonoma County Wildfires of 2017. The ride, in support of Sonoma Pride will help support several organizations that have a direct, restorative impact on the lives of people who lost everything, and have a long road of recovery ahead of them.
