Pro Bike Gallery: Sylvain Chavanel’s Custom Painted S-Works SL4

Road Bike Tour de France

The bike appears reddish on television, but up close it is a bright electric orange.

Multi-time French national champion Sylvain Chavanel likes three things (that we know of, anyway): riding in breakaways, large tattoos, and driving American muscle cars. The Frenchman, who’s ridden in too many breakaways to count, owns an orange 2011 Chevy Camaro and has a few big tats on his legs.

To help “Chava” celebrate his 34th birthday on June 30, Specialized painted him up a special electric orange S-Works SL4 Tour de France road bike to match his favorite car and the sprockets and gears that highlight his tattoos. “The problem is, when I attack, everybody sees me now,” Chavanel said during the final week of the race. “There’s nowhere to hide.”

Specialized will sell 50 of the limited edition frames.
