Why You Want: You want a powerful light that features the convenience of lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, but also the ability to use multiple batteries.
Pros: The Mega Drive measured an impressive 1100 lumens, 100 more lumens than the claimed 1000. The two CREE LEDs provide a wide spill light and far throw light with excellent brightness. Unlike other lights in this category the Mega Drive features replaceable Li-Ion batteries for added versatility.
Cons: The aestheticly pleasing machining of the heatsink leaves a lot of sharp edges, handle this light carefully. Because of the sharp heatsink and edges, the light is also too large to be used as a flashlight, not a deal killer, but something to make note of. Charging time can take up to 10 hours on a USB port, only do this if totally necessary. Otherwise we recommend you use a dedicated 2amp wall outlet.
RoadBikeReview Take: The Lezyne Mega Drive features incredible machining and craftsmanship. The aesthetics will be what draws you in, but the powerful light output is what will make you want to purchase the Mega Drive. Claimed lumen output is 1000, which is conservative considering we measured the light at 1100 lumens. The light features a dual beam pattern, for a wide spill and far throw. The light is water resistant and is safe to use in all conditions, but what seperates it from most lights in this size and category is the replaceable li-ion battery. Conveneient for those that need more than the 1.5 hour run time on high.
Mounting is done with standard fare plastic handlebar mount available in two different sizes for standard and oversized bars, though aluminum versions are optional.
