Revbox is a company based out of New Zealand that has a new trainer that utilizes an old design. For those of you who have been cycling for a while, you might remember the fan trainers of old that were loud, heavy and hard to use. The Revbox Erg shown here is still a bit loud (play the short video clip below to hear) but at 26 lbs, it is lighter than some magnetic trainers out there. The Revbox also attaches directly to your road bike's drivetrain, so familiarity with the cockpit and gearing are much better than a full size stationary trainer.

The heart of the Revbox is the fan that has nine blades, measure about 24 inches in diameter and is made from aluminum. Why use "old" tech? The fan has very low inertia which means there is no heavy flywheel to push you along. This means you have to continously pedal as you workout. If your pedal stroke has any flat spots, you will know from the variations in the sound that the Revbox makes.

The Revbox Erg MK6 allows the rider to use their own road bike for stationary training.

The Revbox (the full model name for this current version is the Revbox Erg MK6) is designed, developed and assembled all in New Zealand. Options include a carry bag, Power App sensor kit and a Power App HR Monitor kit. The biggest downside to the Revbox, without a doubt is its price. The MSRP for American buyers is $999 US that includes your choice of Shimano or Campagnolo 10 or 11 speed freehub body.
