Lumicycle InSight Brake Tail Light Front Side

Lumicycle is a UK based company that produces high-end headlights and tail lights. The InSight is an $80 light that has a claimed output of 50 or 200 Lumens depending on mode. It has a trick up its sleeve, where it employs an accelerometer to detect when the bike is decelerating. It then activates a brighter mode of the light thus serving as a brake light. The functionality of a brake light on a bike is in its inception, but it makes sense when a cyclist is riding on a car lane at night. This gives the following drivers awareness that the cyclist is slowing down.

We like that this light is big and it can be mounted horizontally or vertically depending on preference or space constraints. Another quality we liked is the switch, which is an intuitive toggle switch. Once it’s on, the spring loaded switch will scroll through the different modes available.

A downside is the light doesn’t have all the animation that makes the light more visible. This is more a characteristic of US lights, as there’s European laws that disallow flashing tail lights.

Video: Test with the Lumicycle InSight Brake Tail Light. Tail Light was shot from 20 yards away with a camera at fixed exposure. The light was pointed at the camera then turned to the side. Different flash modes were activated.
