A severe thunderstorm, that had tornado sirens blaring in parts of Boulder County, flattened the still-under-construction Boulder Valley Velodrome in Erie, Colorado late Saturday afternoon.
The Boulder Daily Camera reported that the outdoor, 250-meter track that was slated to open in late summer, suffered near catastrophic damage. “It’s just devastation,” velodrome construction foreman Mikel Reid told the Daily Camera. “But the plan is to rebuild, keep going, can’t stop.”
Severe weather plagued much of eastern Colorado on Saturday, and the there were at least six confirmed tornado touchdowns. But fortunately none gained full steam and reports of damage were limited.
Here’s a video of what the velodrome will look like if/when it gets finished.
