Southern Cross 2011 – Final Registration is Tomorrow

What is Southern Cross?
Southern Cross is an epic cyclocross race based in the Chattahoochee National Forest of north Georgia held on Saturday, February 26th. In the same vein as the The Three Peaks Challenge, Iron Cross, & the Hilly Billy Roubaix the course will consist of a “traditional” cross course with twists, turns, run-ups & barriers. Then participants will head out on either a 30 or 50 mile loop of dirt and paved roads featuring mountain top vistas, rolling rivers and tumbling creeks. Finally the course finishes with another CX course with features that the UCI would not approve like the Wall!

You’ll note a lot of changes for the 2011 edition of the Southern Cross including two distances for the adults, either 30 miles or 50 miles, more categories, more payout, and a traditional (i.e. short w/multiple laps) juniors/kids race. There’s a new start/finish venue at the Montaluce Winery and Estates, t-shirts designed in collaboration with TwinSix and Krautstache(these are sold out) and a complimentary wine tasting. What will not change is the challenge of the race, a generous post race meal, a great after race party, plus cash and prizes. Check the website for details.

The Southern Cross sponsor list continues to grow with great products already arriving to the race HQ such as samples from Chamois Butt’r, FRS, Honey Stinger. Then we have gift certificates from Bike29, The Gear Revival, Hiker Hostel and 55nine Performance. Some lucky racer will be going home with a Mercury Bicycles CX frame or one of two free dinners at Montaluce’s amazing Le Vigne Restaurant.

Speaking of the Le Vigne Restaurant, you can make reservations for after the race (or any other time) through their website. Be sure to let them know via the Special Requests section that your are with the Southern Cross event, so they know where to find you when your table is ready.

Registration Ends Wednesday @ 4:00 PM – There will be no on site registration.

Register by Wednesday, February 23rd at 4:00 PM EST to participate in the 2011 Southern Cross. We’ve pushed this one out as far as we can, so please hesitate no longer.

The Venue – Montaluce Winery & Estates
The Southern Cross is changing venues for 2011 to the stunning Montaluce Winery and Estates of Dahlonega, GA. This new venue offers easier access (less likely we’ll get iced out again) and more parking, but even better is the terrain that lends itself to cross, the amazing views around the winery and the beautiful Tuscan style homes that dot the hills. Prepare to be awed and challenged at this year’s Southern Cross.
