The Grupetto Explained

The grupetto is a group of riders that forms at the rear of a race, either because they’ve been dropped or have simply done their job for the team that day. It is predominately made up of sprinters and heavier riders who aren’t able to keep up on the climbs. The aim of the grupetto is to get to the finish line safely within the time limit set for that day. Press play to learn more in this video from the Global Cycling Network.
