Strength:

very comfortable. easy to modify, and cool as hell.

Weakness:

NOT A SINGLE TRAK BIKE AT ALL. COULD USE BETTER COMPONENTS BUT MOST RIDERS WON'T KNOW. IF YOU DO KNOW BETTER IT IS EASY AND CHEAP TO "FIX". bmx STYLE TIRES AND WHEELS ON THE FRONT AND "BEACH CRUISER" STYLE WHEELS AND TIRES ON THE BACK MAKE THIS GOOD FOR ROADS AND LIGHT DUTY OFF ROAD.

I ride 20-40 miles a week mostly with my large, fast, and highly in shape dog. This bike is a great swb and is very fun to ride. I have modified mine to suit my needs (mostly heavier weight wheels and tires) and it is still very fast and responsive. I recommend this bike as it is easy to modify and a very good bike om=n it's own. Unless your are a serious speed freak, this is a great swb that can now be bought used for $500-600 and provide all the comfort and speed you will ever need.

Strength:

This bike is comfortable and well suited for a large rider. I have the larger of the two frame sizes and at 6'-4" and 213 pounds it can be adjusted to be a perfect fit for me with room to spare. The ergonomics of the layout are quite good with the exception of the handlebar shape/location. I will probably change out the bar for a straight one rather than retain the stock shape.

The optional front suspension on my bike really works well and is a definite plus. The bike handles quite well on the relatively smooth roadways where I ride. The available gear ratios are appropriate and the shifters work well. The spacers between the petals and the crank arms reduce the heel strike problems common to short wheelbase bents. For me, the bike is a good compromise.

There are lighter bikes, bikes with full suspension, and bikes with more bells and whistles, but all at significantly increased cost.

Weakness:

Other than the handlebar shape/location, which for me is easily fixed, I would have much preferred alloy chainrings. In addition, a hinged joint in the handlebar riser similar to that on the Rans Rocket would make mounting and dismounting the bike easier and more graceful.

For this 60 year old university professor, the Thunderbolt is a good choice.
