Eddy Merckx AXM Frames

DESCRIPTION

Merckx bicycles are a great all around experience. The AXM uses the sportier, race bred Corsa geometry yet retains security with a slightly longer wheelbase and more relaxed seat tube angle and generous fork rake with less toe overlap. The geometry and materials package makes for a great century bike which climbs well and handles extremely well under high speeds. The curved top tube and seat stays add to the bikes compliance, while head tube and bottom bracket offer a petrified, plank of catapulting efficiency.

Strength:

My Carbon AXM 759F (2006) is a super stiff and responsive monocoque carbon frame built by famous Italian based www.carbondream.com. By modern standards it’s still a relatively light (8,4kg) and fast bike and a competitive weapon, especially with a pro rider on it. I love the retro quality build, honouring the iconic Merckx brand name. Even in 2020 this 14yr old premium ride in red/black/carbon finish gets lots of admiring looks and positive comments when cycling her around. I bought it in 2014 from an ex Giant-Shimano pro (Bulgaç) who used it as its training bike. Frameset was and still is in very good condition, but I had to replace almost all moving parts to get it back to fine operational order. :)

Weakness:

It’s harder to get original 10speed Carbon Campagnolo Record replacement parts for it nowadays, let alone a fitting replacement frame or fork. I keep her in perfect condition, since really don’t want to swop it for a modern - for my taste - ugly and soulless ‘aero’. Besides, I don’t have the ambition to even benefit from an aero bike which are, on paper, naturally the better evolution.
