Strength:

Nothing like a fast ride on a bright sunny day on the classic Pogliagi or the Sleek Fuji SL-1 but, wet cold and darkness take all of the fun out of it and makes this ride a real danger when done in evening traffic.

The fenders, lights, disk brakes and the right tires changes all of this. It is not fun but much safer. No stripe up your back or water in the shoes.

Weakness:

Weight is always a consideration. The weight seems to not be in the important places - wheels and drive-train. Central mass resists changes in speed less than rotating mass. The additional few pounds of the bike are hardly noticed after the cold weather clothing and the 15 pound back pack and rack pack.

The gearing is exposed (no internal hub) but the dirt riders just hose it down and lube it.

My commuting is function over form. Fenders for wet roads, generator and lights, disk brakes, carrier and kick stand then form. This is the first bike that squeezes form / fun close to the top of the list and still masters the general needs of commuting.

The off road guys have honed this equipment to perfection. The riding position is natural yet low enough to cheat the wind. Much less upright than the typical commuter or want-to-be comfort bike. No skinny tubes to look like steel, maximum strength to weight dictates large tubing with aluminum.

Neutral handling, efficient drive train and comfortable riding position encourage the long way home.

A Bianchi cafe racer, A Garry Fisher Simple City then a Schwinn World Adventure proceeded the Focus. Each had shortcomings and strengths and the Focus is the most strengths with the least shortcomings.
