Scott Solace Road Bike

DESCRIPTION

SCOTT’s engineers have designed a bike with two zones to manage different attributes of the frame. The STIFF ZONE and the COMPLIANT ZONE work in unison to offer a balance of stiffness and compliance that is unmatched at this weight.

Strength:

Very light, stable ride, not quite as much "endurance" as some others, very fast, compact gearing makes climbing easy, good components (105 on my bike, a 2015), nice Shimano wheels and Schwalbe tires, very comfortable--just a great bike.

Weakness:

A racer might want a different geometry tho I believe some of the pro teams ride this bike in Paris-Roubaix.

Just a great bike, Scott has a quality product.

Strength:

Lightweight, comfortable, but stiff and responsive; very fast bike; climbs and descends well on any type road. Can be set up for comfort or blazing speed; does everything very well. Beautiful Black white red paint scheme (Solace 20)

Weakness:

Solace 20 comes Ultegra spec'd but has a 105 rear brake.

2014 Solace 20, I've got about 3000 miles on it and love it, 16lbs out of the box (w/ my Speedplays attached). "Dual comfort and power" zones actually work BB area, chain stays head and down tube are very stiff and responsive; while fork design, (super thin) seat stays and compliant sections of seat tube make it the most comfortable bike I've ridden in this category. I still like to go fast and rip fliers off the front of a group but I'm almost 50 and need something more comfortable on long rides that can still perform and this is perfect. Was skeptical about the BB/chain stay mounted rear brake but it has performed flawlessly.

Ultegra 6800 is awesome except Scott chose to go with 105 for the rear aero brake to save a little money; performs well but I upgraded to Ultegra BR-6810 which performs better. The Syncros RP 2.0 wheels are very good, light and responsive; other Syncros components are good and lightweight.

Strength:

Solid and tight, fast. Mine is a 53/39 , so hills are a little challenge , but probably won't be later on. Was surprised where the rear brake was mounted[ bottom bracket] ,My old bike was a Scott Speedster 20 , so this is my first Carbon bike, I like it. Dampens the rough roads , the geometry although says its the same as the Speedster , seems a little easier to ride.

Weakness:

Seat , which I changed out before the first ride. Tires , which I'll ride out then change to Continental Gatorskins.

Great bike for the price. Going to be a great summer riding.
