The first “A Ruota Libera” – NorCal’s most delicious handmade bike show took place this past Sunday in the San Francisco SOMA neighborhood. Hosted at Una Pizza Napoletana, the event was the brainchild of Soulcraft Bicycles owner Sean Walling and Una Pizza Napoletana owner and pizzaiolo Anthony Mangieri. Both respected craftsmen in their fields, the two came together and put together a bicycle and pizza show designed to showcase and celebrate the rich culture and history of frame building that exists right here in Northern California.
“The frame building talent we have within a 50 mile radius is an embarrassment of riches,” says Walling, “and Anthony has the same obsessive approach to pizza that we have to bikes, so why not get together and give the locals the opportunity to experience this all in one place.”
A Ruota Libera turned out to be a great intimate event for everyone that showed up. After paying the small door charge to enter, fans of handmade bicycles were treated to free pizza, espresso, and italian beer. The real opportunity though was being able mingle with local frame builders and other handmade bicycle enthusiast about the bikes showcased along the walls of the pizzeria.
Whether frame builder or fan, they showed up to appreciate what results from years working toward mastering a craft.
The compact venue wasn’t the most ideal place to take photos, but we captured what we could. Check them out below in our Photo Gallery.
