Bern is a US based brand (Duxbury, MA) that was started in 2004 and is most recognized for their affordable line of commuter and skate-style helmets. For 2016, Bern is looking to change that perception by introducing their first “high-end” performance-oriented road helmet, the FL-1.
Check out this short promo clip for a few different angles of the new FL-1 helmet from Bern.
The FL-1 has a lightweight, aerodynamic design and comes equipped with BOA closures for a quality fit. It has plenty of vents (18) and features a premium in-mold construction. One thing to note is that the BOA retention system is a 360 degree design that pulls the helmet snug from the front to the back of the helmet (not just from the sides). This allows the FL-1 to fit a wide selection of head shapes. There are also sunglass channels to stash your shades while you’re resting.
The FL-1 is available in three colors (black, yellow, white) with reflective highlights in the back of the helmet. This helmet comes in three sizes (SM, MD, LG) and claimed weight for a size medium (non-MIPs) is 245 grams and with MIPs weight is 290 grams. This new Bern lid is available in MIPs and non-MIPs versions and there is also a forthcoming mountain bike version (visor added). The best part? Bern hasn’t forsaken their value – the FL-1 with MIPs will cost $119.99 and the standard version will be $99.99. The FL-1 is available now from your local Bern dealer and the mtb version with visor will be available mid-summer (with a slight price increase for the visor).
