Right out of the box, the Ciamillo GX cross cantilevers are like a punch to the face with craftsmanship and detail. There’s a level of CNC machined goodness here that we didn’t see even in the mid-90’s heyday of CNC-machined mountain bike parts. This, along with solid stopping performance and a full assortment of titanium hardware, make the high price tag a bit easier to swallow.
And if the name Ciamillo doesn’t sound familiar, they’re the ones behind the Zero Gravity and Negative Gravity road calipers—arguably the first modern multi-pivot brakes to offer a big weight reduction while still packing enough stopping power to rival dual pivot brakes from Shimano and Campagnolo. Ciamillo’s GX aims do the same thing: offer zero-compromise braking performance in a lighter package. Helping their weight reduction effort is an impressive array of titanium, right down to the the bolt and washer on their own dinky, machined brake hanger.
