First Look: Fezzari Foré Cyx cyclocross bikes

New line-up of bog hoppers feature updated frame design

2015 Foré Cyx

Off to the races on the Foré Cyx. (Foré is an old English word that means out in front.)

Utah based direct-to-consumer bike seller Fezzari has upped the ante of its cyclocross offerings with a new frame platform and multiple build options.

While specs vary from model to model, all the new bikes are built around the same full carbon frame, which features a 15mm thru axle up front, a 142x12mm rear thru axle, disc brakes, a tapered headtube, and stealth internal routing that’s compatible with mechanical and electronic shifting drivetrains.

The new frame design also boasts extra wide tire clearance. Fezzari marketing boss and occasional amateur cyclocross racer Tyler Cloward says he’s been running a set of 40c WTB Nano tires this season with no issue whatsoever. Just don’t tell the U.C.I.

Pricing starts at a budget friendly $2299; the most popular build thus far is the $2999 3.0 model, which comes stock with SRAM’s Rival 22 11-speed drivetrain, a climbing friendly 11-32 cassette, and SRAM Rival hydraulic disc brakes. You can see a full spec and price breakdown below.

Fezzari will also work with customers who are looking for something that’s not part of its in-line program. “We can customize the builds to get the wheels and tires a rider would like for their specific racing or riding area,” says Cloward. “We can even ship the bike already set-up tubeless if that’s what they want.”

2015 Foré Cyx

Not a bad looking bike.

Of course one of the biggest fears with buying a bike outside the traditional independent bike dealer channel is assuring you’re getting the right fit. Normally this is achieved through copious test rides, but Fezzari is confident they can assure the right bike via its 23-point fit system, which incorporates detailed measurements from each bike buyer into the final build.

“We custom fit and build each bike for each person,” explains Cloward. “We are looking at your measurements and then setting up the bike making sure the reach is just right and that the saddle positioning is set, the seat height dialed, and crank length is specifically for you and tour needs.”

Cloward adds that the Foré Cyx cyclocross bikes are designed with versatiliy in mind. They are light and agile enough for racing, he says, but can easily do double duty as a adventure road bike or even a commuter rig. There are also some small, but well thought out features built into the frame itself. Fezzari added reinforcement to the underside of the down tube and chain stays to better withstand the rigors of riding and racing, and the threading of the replaceable derailleur hanger is in the hanger and not in the frame. So in case you happen to strip a bolt, you won’t have to replace your frame.

We have a test bike on order and will post a full review in early 2015. In the meantime here’s full spec on the new ’cross bikes. Learn more at www.fezzari.com

I have been riding/racing the Fore Cyx since Fezzari released the bike and love it! The bike is stiff yet not harsh, the thru axles help achieve that. I had been riding a bike with out the thru axles and noticed a difference right away especially on the off camber technical corners. The bike flies, when I stand up the Cyx get up and moves. The guys at Fezzari were spot on with the 23 point set up. Excellent bike!
