Unless you’ve been riding in the woods with no cell service for the last few years, you’ve likely heard about CBD, a derivative of the marijuana plant that some claim has legitimate medical use without getting you high.
Floyd Landis and his Floyd’s of Leadville operation is among the leading proponents of CBD, already selling it in capsule form. Now the infamous Tour de France-level pro who was stripped of 2006 yellow jersey title is broadening his company’s line of CBD recovery products with the introduction of their CBD Recovery Protein drink mix.
In PR material released by the company, they claim some studies are showing CBD to be a strong anti-oxidant with anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety properties, thus perhaps making it a legitimate addition to post-workout or post-competition recovery regimens.
This is bolstered by a recent WADA decision that cleared the way for CBD use among top athletes, emboldening Landis to assert that, “It’s likely we’ll soon see wider use of CBD for pain management and recovery during racing and competition.”
Without having much firsthand experience it’s hard to speak to those claims. But Floyd’s of Leadville CBD Recovery Protein supplement is said to contain no additives, no fillers, and is sweetened with organic sugar and Stevia.
“Formulated to harness hemp’s secret weapon – CBD – the Floyd’s Of Leadville recovery protein helps support healthy recovery from training and competition,” the PR material states, adding that, “Floyd’s of Leadville CBD utilizes anti-inflammatory varieties to take the edge off the pain post-exercise by reducing inflammation and easing muscle soreness and joint stiffness. Thanks to its widespread effects on the endocannabinoid system, CBD can also promote relaxation. With more athletes experimenting with CBD after the World Anti-Doping Authority lifted their ban, CBD protein powder is considered a new and important product.”
Healthy recovery and pain management is a personal passion for Landis. He is a former professional cyclist at the highest level of the sport, and raced with Lance Armstrong for the US Postal Service team. He then went on to win a Tour de France victory, but was subsequently stripped of his title for using performance enhancing drugs.
After his fall from grace he faced chronic pain stemming from hip replacement surgery, and dealt with the pain by using Cannabis and Hemp-derived CBD. Learning more about the positive benefits of natural pain management inspired him to start Floyd’s of Leadville.
