Cobo wins Vuelta Stage 15!
Cobo, GEOX-TMC lead the Vuelta!

In the most brutal stage of the 2011 Vuelta a España, featuring one of cycling’s most notorious climbs, GEOX-TMC’s Juan Jose Cobo did the unthinkable.

Not only did he leave his competitors in the dust as he powered up the famed Angliru climb’s 22 percent grade, he came across the line 48 seconds ahead of the chasers for a stage win in the grand tour’s most epic stage.

With the victory, Cobo assumes the red jersey, leaping ahead of Mollema, Wiggins, and Froome for a 20-second advantage in the GC entering the Vuelta’s final week.

This marks the first time Fuji has led a grand tour!

“This is a dream come true,” said Cobo after the stage. “The team is so strong, and this is also a victory for the team, who has worked so hard for me.”

GEOX-TMC’s silent assassin, Denis Menchov, negated all counters from the Sky chasing group and beat out Christopher Froome for 3rd on the podium in the Vuelta’s 15th stage – a second consecutive 2-podium day for GEOX-TMC. The team now leads the overall team classification by nearly 7 minutes.

Cobo, GEOX-TMC, and Fuji left an indelible mark on the tour today.
