The Brits clearly have different rules about keeping one’s hands on the handlebars, but the warnings in this video are still generally applicable. Don’t try to put on your rain jacket in the middle of a group, don’t do it on a busy road, and don’t do it in the middle of a turn.
When you’re first trying to master this skill, do it along on a quiet, smooth flat road. You can even use a vest the first few times just to get the routine down. For more tips — including proper folding technique — check out this How To video from our friends at the Global Cycling Network.
If you still need to work on riding no handed, here’s another helpful video. And by the way, a gilet is Brit-speak for vest.
