Inaugural Edition of the GranFondo Cannondale Vail

Vail, CO – Colorado is ready to host a real cycling celebration this weekend. The Inaugural GranFondo Cannondale Vail takes place over Saturday and Sunday with Expo and Packet Pick up on the 18th and the ride itself taking place on the 19th. GranFondo Cannondale Vail will take place amongst the pedestrian mall that makes up Lionshead Square and take advantage of its beautiful surroundings. On Sunday August 19th the ride will start at 7:00 AM from roughly 400 E. Lionshead Circle, the entrance to Lionshead Square. Hundreds of cyclist will enjoy the long course GranFondo with its 120 miles or the MedioFondo (57 miles).

KOM&COM tested on State Bridge Climb
State Bridge is a five mile climb starting at mile 85 of the ride. This hill will be an awesome test of participant’s climbing abilities. Maxing at with an 8.9% grade this is a marquee test for all cyclists in the Vail Valley. Elevations start at a staggering 6500 feet and rise to over 8200 feet over a five mile distance.

MedioFondo Athletes will start alongside the GranFondo riders starting out of lionshead Square at 7:00 AM. Athletes will ride an out and back course officially equalling 57 miles.

Expo and Packet pick up will be located in the Lionshead Square area of Vail.

Unique to all GranFondo events is an authentic Italian-inspired platform honoring its European roots. All Vail participants will enjoy a custom cycling jersey, commemorative medal, well-stocked aid stations, partially controlled intersections with an Italian-style meal and Prosecco to honor the accomplishment.

Characteristic to the region, Vail offers a Euro-style course with short sections of dirt road, marquee elevation gain, KOM and QOM awards and overall, the most challenging GranFondo course of the series.
