Interbike: Mr. T, Taylor Phinney sighted at Giro booth

A-Team and Team BMC stars come together to promo shoes

Apparently Giro pities the fool who can’t tie his shoe–or something like that. The cycling helmet, apparel and shoe maker entertained Interbike attendees with an appearance by American cycling star Taylor Phinney of Team BMC and a (very) Las Vegas Mr. T impersonator.

The stunt was coordinated by Giro Sports Marketing Director Chuck Platt (right) who shares a laugh with Phinney before Mr. T showed up.

Phinney is still recovering from a broken leg he suffered as a result of a crash at the USA Cycling National Road Championship back in June. Though he uses a cane to keep weight off his leg, he says the recovery is going well.

Phinney signs a shoelace autograph card for a young fan as part of a shoe-themed promotion at Giro’s Interbike booth.

Chicago-born editorial director Don Palermini became a cycling-based life-form in the sixth grade after completing a family road bike tour of his home state. Three years later he bought his first mountain bike to help mitigate the city's pothole-strewn streets, and began exploring the region's unpaved roads and trails. Those rides sparked a much larger journey which includes all manner of bike racing, commuting, on- and off-road bike advocacy, and a 20-plus-year marketing career in the cycling industry. Now residing in the San Francisco Bay Area and pedaling for Mtbr, his four favorite words in the English language are "breakfast served all day," together in that order.
