NOW may be a new name in the cycling industry, but its founder and designers are not. Collectively the nascent brand’s team has a dozen years of accumulated experience managing global motorcycle helmet brand KBC Helmet. That experience shines through in their design concepts and execution, which is reflected in a product catalog that spans commuter to aero race.
Weighing 240 grams, NOW’s Zappi is competitive with other lightweight aero helmets. And with a price of $198, the Zappi is inexpensive compared to offerings from Giro, Bell, Kask, and Lazer.
NOW designed the Zappi with their proprietary In-Mold High Performance EPS Liner, Mirco Shell, and Skeleton Inner Construction System. This translates to high performance and heavyweight protection. Pads for the Zappi are anti-bacterial, cooling, and replaceable.
With 32 vents and NOW’s trademarked SWAC (Spider Web Air-flow Channel), the Zappi boasts impressive cooling air flow while in motion. SWAC is designed to circulate air around your head while keeping NOW’s helmets as drag free as possible.
NOW’s helmets have a different shape than what many will be used to. Their helmets have an ovalized shape and look. But when considering the human head shape, it makes perfect sense. Our heads are not all perfect circles.
While riding I could feel the airflow over my head, a nice change from my previous aero helmet. It’s also a quiet ride, as the aerodynamic design keeps chatter down, something you have to experience to truly appreciate. I didn’t have any crashes in the Zappi, but I felt confident in the design and fit. The Zappi delivered a comfortable and cool ride after miles in hot (and not so hot) weather.
NOW offers Zappi in 12 colors, so there is most definitely a match for your kit and/or bike. Bottom line, the Zappi is an eye catching, lightweight aero helmet that’s definitely worth trying on.
