Quick Take: Serfas TSL-200 Bicycle Headlight

Lights Lights Shootout

Why You Want:You commute on your road bike, you’re looking for a powerful light that won’t take up a lot of space on your handlebar and won’t waste disposable battery after disposable battery.

Pros: Self contained lights are covenient for commuters, and the TSL-200 is just that, weighing very little but packing quite the punch with it’s lumen output. The internal Li-Ion battery and USB recharging port make it easy to maintain and keep topped off, ready for use on your commutes.

Cons: The lightweight light would be perfect as a helmet light, and though it’s compatible with Serfas’ helmet mount, it’s not included.

RoadBikeReview Take: LED and battery technology has progressed quite rapidly over the past couple of years that today it’s possible to get a 200 lumen light in a small self contained form factor for a fraction of what it would have cost just a few years ago. We’re big fans of these self contained lights, and the Serfas TSL-200 might be our new favorite. At just 64 grams the Serfas TSL-200 is quite light and easily mounted to your handlebar via a universal mount. It would work great as a helmet light, but unfortunately is not included.

When turned on, the TSL-200 produces good light, theres a strong beam pattern with a halo around it that does a good job of lighting up most the peripheral. Three standard settings of high, medium, and low – they’re cycled through with just a click of the button. A flashing mode is also available and is easily triggered by holding down the button for 2 seconds at any time. Run time on the light is quite good at an hour and forty five minutes on high and can be stretched to as long as six and a half hours on low.

The convenient thing about these self contained lights is universal USB recharging, a mini usb port makes it easy to plug into any USB port to charge back to full, with the TSL-200 that only takes 2.5 hours. If you’re looking for a light that’s sub 100 grams that will fit on your handle bar or helmet, we’d strongly suggest taking a look at this newcomer from Serfas for 2013.
