What is it
Spurcycle is best known for their bells. Now you can add multi-tools to that list. This minimalist titanium problem solver is compact, lightweight, and easy to use. It has 10 hardened steel bits and a grade-5 titanium driver, and should outlast most bikes it’s servicing.
- Made in the USA with Grade 5 Titanium (main tool)
- Has 10 chrome steel hardened bit tips
- Unique sliding handle design allows tool in hard to reach places
- Lightweight at 90g and packable at 30x95mm
- $69 will deter some buyers
- No chain breaker
- Bits small and easy to lose on trail (don’t ask)
Are you ready for the road or trail ahead? Do you have a spare tube, patch, and multi-tool? And do you like that multi-tool or is it just an “emergency only” option? I’ve spent a ton of time riding with tools in my repair bag that have to “get me home” and nothing more. It’s rare that I find something that is not only easy to use, but small enough to pack.
Equipped with 10 swappable, chrome-coated steel bits, and wrapped in a finely-stitched X-Pac carry case, the Spurcycle tool exudes fashion and function at just 90 grams. The Grade 5 titanium tool body is crafted in Richmond, California. Its carrying case is made in San Francisco.
I love products that are made in the USA, though sometimes that comes with a higher price. The Spurcycle tool is $69 and might be too much for some when similar devices with more fittings can be found at half the price. But after examining the craftsmanship and seeing the attention to detail, I imagine this tool will last much longer than others I’ve used.
Using the tool is a pleasure. The handle slides quickly, allowing for the tool to be used as a T handle or an L for more leverage. Included bits are: 2mm, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8 hex keys, T10, T25, and P2, which easily covers most repairs. A chain breaker would be nice, but is not 100% necessary. The bit’s store securely in a plastic holder, but be careful, as it’s possible to drop and lose them.
The Spurcycle tool is small enough to stow in most saddle bags, ride wallet, or zip pocket. And the case is a nice touch for keeping the bits safe. It even has extra room for cash or chain links. Bottom line, I would recommend the Spurcycle tool to anyone looking to add some style and functionality to their bike repair kit.
