Is there any difference between 105 and Tiagra brake sets other than weight (and maybe pad material)?

When I got my new bike (Rival brakes) I noticed they were a damn sight better than the Tiagra's right away. So I was thinking of swapping the Tiagra's out with 105's (since everything else on the bike is 105) although I might just throw some Rival's on it since I know I like them.

Please define better to you. Lighter? Modulation? Smoothness? Stopping power? what?
Brake pads are great cheap upgrades for stopping performance.

+1 on the salmon Kool stops.
+2 I put them on the stock brakes on my bike and it made a noticeable difference especially for a Clyde like me.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up just picking up some 105 brakes on ebay for $25 more than the Kool stop pads with holders would have cost me, so it seemed like the way to go.

The Sram brake systems come with Swiss Stop brake pads. Much, much better than the pads that come stock on the Shimano brakes (except for maybe the new DA).
