I am looking to upgrade my gravel grinder/all-terrain cx bike this year. I do not race cx - I have a triple setup with 1:1 low gear which I want on the new bike, along with disc brakes. I will probably get an Ultegra groupset, as I can get my gear ratio with the mid-cage rear derailleur.

My question is what rear spacing should I get? Will the 135mm give me more brake options in the future, or will the 130mm spacing limit possibilities? What are the pros and cons of each spacing for my intended use?

since you're going with Discs.... you'll find more hubs with 135mm spacing.

MY cross frame works with both 130mm and 135mm rear hubs. I have both a 130mm and 135mm disc hub for the rear and both work fine. The frame is spec'd as a 132.5mm rear width. But with the 135mm rear hub, you'll for sure have more choices for hubs and pre-built wheels.

I like 135mm. More options and easier to get the wheel in the drop out if your running discs.

No, you'll need a 135mm rear wheel.

in a steel frame yes, in an Aluminum frame maybe

Cant speak to steel or aluminum frames, but my Raleigh RCX Pro Disc with 135 rear spacing, had no issues with my 130 spaced non-disc road wheel which I used for trainer rides 3-4 hours each week during cross season.
