MB1s photo series - 102 photos (or 103 now) has inspired me to come up with something based on my epic trip back to America on Halloween last year up till Jan 15th this year.

I realized I haven't really posted a proper account with photos of my escapades so I thought I'd mark 14k with the start to that series.

Why 79? That's because I was away for a total of 79 days (77 days in America, with a little over a day spent flying across the Pacific (back from LAX).

Each part would have a random number of photos, albeit, they would be chronological from flying out to LAX all the way to flying out from LAX back to Singapore. I have to insert a disclaimer here: Some pictures would be decent while a number are for memories, to mark occasions and basically, serve as a photo journal to a large extent. So, don't expect super duper awesome shots mmkay?

I didn't take photos every single day of my trip but I did take a hefty sum of around 6500+ photos for my vacation. Most of em were with the new camera I picked out while over there (thanks JoeH! You know why :))

Without further ado, I present to le Lounge, part uno of setenta y nueve (79). Enjoy:

Pre departure:

I stopped by at my cousin's place 3 days before flying off and, my niece's awesomeness conned me into a second trip back there the next day to see her again. A little backstory - she's always been kinda shy around me whenever she came over or we crossed paths at family events but on the first day I went over, she reallllly warmed up to me (a little thanks to the iPhone too. Thanks Steve!).

She asked to sit on my lap and hardly left her newly earned spot as well as tagged along wherever I went. Needless to say, I was overwhelmed with happiness and her awesomeness. She was having a fever that day but I definitely helped her forget it I suppose.

Here:

She could have conned me of practically anything!

October 31st, 2008, departure morning, 0700 GMT +0800.

I didn't really check out the new Terminal 3 where I was flying from as honestly, as nice as it looked and all, I didn't really see any shops that I wanted to hang out in for a long time and all. Additionally, I was on the phone with my cousin (not the one whose kids I was smitten with) for a little bit. After checking out a few stores, I decided to just sit and wait by my gate for my flight on the warm October morning of Halloween.

(By the way, Singapore's airport is called Changi International Airport)

A short while later, it was boarding time and I got on, put my bags in the overhead compartment and settled into my seat nicely. It was really cool that the middle seat (I got the window) was unoccupied since the particular passenger swapped seats for the first segment of the flight from SIN - NRT.

Tow, taxi, and it's TAKEOFF!

My adventure had begun and I was en route to Tokyo.

I only went via Tokyo though. The layover at Narita was a mere 80 min or so with about 50 plus spent going through security.

It was pretty cool but nothing major IMO - sure they had jerseys from teams that are famous etc - nothing we don't already have in other stores perhaps.

Yeah. Nothing really big though.

I did seethe FIFA store from the outside but didn't check it out though. Now I kinda regret it. Oh well, I guess I gotta wait for a couple more months till I get the chance to check it out again hopefully.

omg, you didn't even go in!

You realize here in any-town America, you can't buy football jerseys (unless they're American football) unless you are lucky enough to have a soccer shop nearby, which are rarer than Endangered Porcupine Caribou.

That means if I want to buy the current season's design, it's all eurosport or bigsoccer online. You can't even get games here on cable either... you need satellilte and half of them don't even carry Ligue, Serie, or Premiership.

If there's a game on ESPN or CBS (wide world of sports) it's very rare... very rare. Even rarer than cycling (almost...lol)

FSC (Fox Soccer Channel) shows a lot of the games. I recently sprung for cable and paid the extra $5/month for the expanded sports package just so I could get FSC. It also came with a couple of Hispanic channels where I can watch games. You don't have to speak Spanish to appreciate the games, and besides, their announcers are so much more entertaining.

Gooooooooooooooaaaaaaaallllllllllll. Golgolgolgolgolgolgolgolgolgol! Gooooooooaaaaaalllll.

Haha. You'd hate me for this- many stores here sell soccer jerseys. Too many to even count. I suppose the FIFA store just had a collection of cooler stuff maybe.
At the stores I was talkig about, you can easily find Arsenal, Man United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and numerous other jerseys.

As for games, well, I could probably watch 35 of the 38 Premiership games Man United plays in. Add the Carling Cup, FA Cup, Champions' League and that's a lot of soccer.

I actually managed to catch a repeat telecast of some games back in Princeton. I think
My friend's form had Fox Soccer or something like that. Soccer was one thing I missed while back there.

I don't really get the Serie A here though. La Liga has some games televised weekly.
