I'm looking to replace the seatpost on a 1980s steel Trek... The original seatpost is too scratched up to read past the 2 and the 7... It's a 27(?)... 27.0, 27.2, ???... The frame is a trek-lugged Reynolds 531.

Any ideas? I'm not buying a set of calipers just to figure this out. Just thought someone may know or know how to find such info.

i'd try a 27.0

i have a mid 1980s trek 520. there was a 27.2 jammed in there and it was impossible to get out. a 27.0 seemed like a much better fit - only finally got the old one out and the new one in last week. seems like a vast improvement.

Just went through this with my '83 Trek 620. I measured the OEM seatpost as 27.0 mm (using a dial caliper) but both Sheldon Brown and the Vintage-Trek website said 27.2 mm . I bought a 27.2 seatpost and it fit fine.
