Ok, I'm looking to purchase an older, 2004, Jake. NOT Jake the Snake. Simply a Jake. I have searched for a 2004 retail on the bike to no avail. Since the 2008 is around $850, I would imagine the 2004 was $700-800 retail... I could be off. Anyway, since I'm not experienced with road/cross bikes, what do you think about a 2004 Jake for $400? Worth it or a bad deal? I don't plan on racing... just some back dirt roads/some paved etc.

Your insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If it is Easton ultralight tubing and in good shape. The frame is probably worth $200. If it has a carbon fork add a hundred or two. Then figure out what kind of components it has. If it is all Shimano 105 and beat to heck maybe not. If it is all dura ace and cherry it is probably worth a grand. But in my book any bike that rolls and looks pretty good is worth $400.
