My LBS has an 09 roubaix (base, compact) in my size. It's new, so it's been there a while and the sale price shows it... $1299.00.

If I can get them to eat the tax, I'm tempted to go for it. Is there anything about the 09 that I should know? Aside from the generic brakes it looks like all 105 components, which is what my other bike is. Seems like a good deal at the price.

never ask a retailer to "eat the tax". very little room on margin on the bike.
talk to them about a deal on accessories (cages, computers, shoes, helmet, etc). more wiggle room on these items.

Little margin? It listed new at $1700 if memory serves in 2009. They've got it tagged at 1299. So either there's a whole lot of margin or they want to get rid of it. Either way I don't feel too bad about asking for some additional discount on a bike that's 2 full model years old.

The bike MSRP'd for $1,900 back in '09, so at $1,299 the dealers margin of profit has already shrunk markedly. Also, the crankset is an FSA Gossamer, not Shimano 105.

JMO, but I wouldn't ask the LBS to include tax in the sales price. If you don't want to pay $1,299, take the percentage your tax rate is for your locale and offer that amount.
