True 26 inchers are not 650 size, so I've been told. I saw a Continental 26X1 a year ago and can't find it now. Seen any?

Are you looking for road bike 26" (597mm) or MTB 26" (559mm)??
I didn't know there was a difference. The rims are Mavic M 231 CD. Almost ten years old, I believe.

They're 559's. I don't think there are any 1"' tires made for the older 597mm size. As I said, it looks like Harris Cyclery has Conti Grand Prix in 26x1, and also similar Ritchey's.

"26-inch" tires are confusing. I think there are 5 or 6 different sizes that use that number.

MTB tires have decimal sizes (1.5, 1.9) whereas the old 26" road tires have fractional sizes (26 x 1 & 3/8). Any modern tire will have the ERTRO bead diameter, referred to by Dave_Stohler, marked on the sidewall.
