I've heard that you can put a 38 tooth chainring on a 39/53 Dura-Ace crankset, is that true? If so who makes the chainring and where can you get one? Will it make a noticable difference while climbing or will it be like going from a 12-25 to a 12-26 cassette?
Thanks for the info.

FSA makes a 38 thooth ring with 130mm bolt pattern. It will make a slight difference when climbing but not as much as adding a tooth on the back. I run 38 x 25 on mine.

the 25 to 26 will make a bigger diff than 39 to 38, but not by much... the diff b/w either are small

38 tooth chainring

Had a 38t FSA chainring but it didn't last very long and shifted poorly. I went with a Sram 38t chainring which works perfectly and am very pleased with its shifting.

I've used 38t Ritchey and Salsa. They both seemed to work OK (9 speed).
