Okay the trail on the 54cm bike is 55 on the cannondale caad 8 2012 , Mine is a 2010 but it should be about the same trail fork rake is 45
42MM Rake offset vs 45mm offset Rake
What to expect, I have a cannondale caad 8 with 45mm rake Fork, Im going to change it to a 42mm rake Fork, the trail is 52 on a 61cm bike, mine is 54cm. The new Fork can fit larger tires on it. Will it create a noticeable difference and how much will i have reduced the wheelbase and trail. Im going to put 26c tires on it over my current 25c tires. Will the bike feel much different is what i am wondering? Or about the same . Im also upgrading to wider wheels C17 wheels.
So C17wheels(about 3mm increase in wheel width) 26c tires and a 3mm decrease in rake in the Fork.

All else equal, your steering will be a bit slower. Your going to get some OMG BS from others but this is my story. I broke a mtn bike fork and put a new one on and rode it a while. Then I made some mods to the bike and rode it for about a year, I was sitting in the garage looking at it one day and then realized during the mods I had put it on backwards!!!! (different manuf with the cross bar on the other side of the forks). It handled a little wonkie at really low speeds but at normal riding speeds it seemed ok for a YEAR. Just say'in.
