After a fine morning on the water we decided it would be a perfect day for one of our favorite things; a "What If" ride.

What you may ask is a What If ride?!?

Well it is pretty simple actually.

You get to an intersection and one of us says, "What if we turn ≈≈≈≈ here?"

And that is what we do.

A great way to learn new routes and explore the city.

Doing a ride like that you are bound to find new things and ride new places.

For starters we rode on some of the crummiest bike lanes and routes in the area.

And we found a sweet Farmers Market that we had never been to before.

All the while heading in the general direction we wanted to go.

What we were actually doing was working our way through the back roads of Arlington (thereby avoiding the crazy busy MUTs) over to the Air Force Memorial and the Pentagon.

Wasn't a bad ride at all...

Sad to say, the Memorials were pretty much empty. :(

Then we headed over the river to DC for a little shopping.

BTW we discovered where the crowds were. :yikes:

Then we headed across town to home.

We avoided the Mall and all the people on it but Pennsylvania Avenue and its' new bike lanes weren't much better. That is one crummy design for a bike lane.

Then Georgetown and all its' traffic (DC is a busy, busy town) before finally getting a quite mile home.

Finally home Miss M says, "What if we do 'What If' again tomorrow?!!"

Great pictures as usual. How was the National Book Festival. We were thinking of going but it was a little too hot for our one-year old.

Great ride post and pics as always. I especially liked the Air Force memorial pics and the early morning pics on the water. I really liked the action shot of Miss M paddling with the water moving behind her paddle.

Oh man it was crowded, I can't imagine it would be any fun for a family with children.

Love your ride pix!

How did you get those F-16 shadows? Were they part of the sculpture?
There is a glass wall with the silhouettes of the planes etched into it. I noticed they were casting a pretty neat shadow and there you go.
