I've got a Specialized "carbon-wrapped" alloy bar that I would like to put clip-on aero bars onto. Specialized claims the bar has all the strength of an alloy bar plus the benefits (ie. snazzy looks) of carbon. I think it's cheesy, but I don't want to replace it just yet.

Anyone have any experience with clip on aero bars with one of these?

Specialized considers it a carbon bar and treats it as such in terms of installation guides, warranty etc., but I would think having an aluminium core would be reinforcement enough to run aero bars. Thoughts?

check with specialized...

but I don't think they will say that it is OK to use aerobars with their carbon bars. As I recall, only Kestrel OKs aerobars on their carbon bars. Handlebars and steer tubes are two places that I don't like carbon.
