Ride for Heroes has dropped the 80-mile route for this year's ride. (They always called it 76, but everyone I know who has ridden it the last two years clocked between 79 and 80.) I hit the e-mail link on their web site and asked why. Got the following reply:

Thanks for your feedback. I will pass this along to our board of directors. I hope you will join us anyway. Tell your riding friends to let me know if they would prefer the longer ride so we can consider adding it back for next year.

That's such a well-organized ride, but a lot of the appeal for me was that it was the first longer organized ride of the year. Lots of fun watching people who haven't ridden more than 30 miles yet this year dying on the hills around mile 55. (That may be me this year, if I don't get my butt in gear.) I was hoping they'd add a century route, not scale it back to 100K, which you can get on most local teams' Saturday morning training ride. If you feel the same way, e-mail them at [email protected].
