Alison Starnes racing for USA National Team, put in a huge effort today 15k into the race with an attack that stayed away for much of the race. She was joined by Janneke Kanis of Nederland Bloiete. The duo steadily increased the gap to two minutes and stayed away until the 85K mark with Starnes scooping up the pave sprint points.
"This was my first World Cup, and I had been feeling strong in the previous races here, some of the cobbled sections were 3-4k long with super rough cobbles but my Zipp 303's glided over them absorbing the impact." remarked Starnes " It was fun to be able to initiate the break and to get on the podium---twice even! I look forward to the rest of the racing block here before I come home to race with Peanut Butter & Co TWENTY12".
Starnes and Kanis were caught close to the finish of the 5th cobble section with about 20K to go ending in a bunch sprint with Marianne Vos taking the win.
