Just getting around to posting this, but it was very gratifying last Thursday to see L'Equipe give Jeannie Longo a front-page shout-out plus half a page (above the fold) on the cycling page for winning the national championship for time trial while Sylvain Chavanel was relegated to 1/6 page below the fold.
Like deadly Nedly, Longo's been winning major races since I was young. It's very cool to see her still on top of her form at 49 and also to see women's cycling getting serious respect in the media. With the kind of trash the men are doing to the sport, I keep hoping that women's cycling will emerge as a premier spectator sport in my lifetime and I'm gratified to see L'Equipe giving it real attention.
