I thought you were going to link a Celine Dion video for sure.

Yes, Andrew Bird is incredible. Are you speaking of a particular album? My favorite is "A Mysterious Production of Eggs". "Weather Systems" is fantastic as well.

I've been listening to Armchair Apocrypha. I'll have to check out the others. Is the new one any good? He's opening for the Decemberists in June near here, and I'm thinking of getting tix.....

Dunno, I' haven't heard anything from the new 'un.

My guess is that you really can't go wrong. Particularly if he's opening up for the Decemberists.

I decided to take the plunge. So far, so good. His music is a "grower" for me. You sort of tune it out initially.

New one is good. It's the 1st of his I have listened to. Good stuff. Off to download some tunes now...
Certainly not "mainstream", which is a REALLY good thing.

On the contrary.

The first time I'd heard " Mysterious Production" I was completely amazed. It wasn't as drippy as the tune you linked, Brick (although I really dig it), but reminded me a little of a cello concerto written by Schnittke. Of course, that was really only the instrumentals.

There are so many great tunes included on that album that I really can't name a favorite:

"Nervous Tic Motion..."
"MX Missles"
"Fake Palindromes"
"Sovay"

Is amazing. That is all.

(Late to the party, I know.)
Yeah, Andrew Bird can whistle harder than anyone I've ever heard. The new one (Noble Beast) is good; he's certainly not in decline. Also make sure you have "Oh Sister" from the Soldier On EP; I think that's his best song. Tons of good live stuff can be found at www.archive.org, the best of which, I think, is the 30 May 2007 show in Coimbra.

And for no reason, Here's Bobby Darin singing Hank Williams:

Liking Andrew Bird does not preclude liking even the third Hank Williams.
