Hey everyone, I'm buying my first road bike tomorrow and all of my bikey friends say that it's a great deal and a great starter bike. £120 for the below Trek 1000 Alpha. I kinda wanted to identify what year it was before meeting up with the guy so I could haggle on price if possible. I've looked all over the net and can only find one picture of this model/colour and that doesn't have any info about it. If anyone could tell me the year this model came out that would be awesome!! Thanks everyone! Here are the picture the guy sent me and here is the link to the picture I can find on the net. Do I need to be worried that the handle bars are a different colour to the the one in the link? Sorry I'm really new to this. :)

this looks like it would be around a 2007 or 2008 model or thereabouts. Trek did not go to the sloping top tube until 2008 (at least in the US and Canada) I would guess that 120 pounds would be a fair price for that bike if it is good shape.

Cheers,

Brian

Not true, the C series had a sloping tube. A ride partner of mine had one.

Actually, 8toes, 2007 was the last year that Trek put their 1000 label on what became the 1.* bikes. I only know that because I have an 07 Trek 1000. It looks like the 1000c model did have a sloping top tube... but I don't see a "c" denotation on this bike.

Thanks Brian, I'm new to all this - could you explain what a sloping top tube is? Is there anything I should be looking for when I view it? I've been hunting and I just found this

The design is exactly the same as mine just different colours... Made me wonder if it's a 2004. I'll have a look for some 2008 ones.. Thanks for the quick response!

The tube that goes between your legs is the toptube.

In the link you posted, the bike has a level bar. In pic I posted above, the top tube (bar bweteen legs) is sloping downwards from the handlebar are to the seat area.
