I'm confused myself as to when Apex will be available. I've read articles that said "by May or June in the UK" and others than said "by October" for the US. SRAM's initial Apex press release, meanwhile, didn't seem to contain a release timeframe.

No one I've run into seems to know for certain when its coming out... it's been kinda WTF that way.

Probably due to SRAM not knowing the full extent of demand for OE yet. Once they know that they can gauge availability for retail stock.

Thanks, I hadn't seen the IRD cassette. That makes the decision on what bike to get my wife a bit harder; she's a new rider and needs close to a 1:1 low gear for a steep hill to get back to our house. Either a triple with a 27 or compact with a 32 would work. Personally, I wouldn't like the large steps with the wider cassette, but the compact is lighter, and she may eventually get strong enough to go back to a 12-27.
