Sharp eyed fans may have noticed something different at the front of the Tour de France peloton on Thursday. Dan Martin (UAE Team Emirates) won stage 6 with an impressive solo effort. But what was really unique was that the Irishman was wearing a yet-to-be-released zipperless jersey from Champion System.

To our knowledge, UAE is the first team to wear a zipperless jersey in the WorldTour peloton. The jersey was designed in cooperation with the UAE team to develop an aerodynamic, breathable, and comfortable jersey. It's no secret that modern jersey fabrics are aerodynamically fast and keep riders cooler than ever before. And now they may soon come without zippers for even more aero benefit.

The zipperless top Martin and his teammates are wearing is made of Champion System's AGILE fabric, which is the primary fabric on the Apex Lite jersey. It offers four-way stretch capabilities that make it a perfect candidate for this type of application, as a close fit (and the accompanying aero benefits) are of the utmost importance at race such as the Tour de France.

"The feedback from the riders has been excellent," said Champion System director of operations Chris Reynolds. "Dan Martin is very particular with what products he'll use in races, as he fully understands the demands and the benefits of certain products. As a brand we understand that this jersey will not be for everyone as it is a very specialized item, however, we strongly believe that what we make for the professional riders should also be offered to our clubs globally. It is what we have always done and will continue to do."
