So a while back there was a thread about older game systems. I started looking at these "compliation" PS2 games from older developers. Found this gem from Atari. Has a ton of games.

The arcade versions look exactly like the stand-ups. The rest are like I remember them. Cool in a retro way. Not so cool for latest generation gamers. Been playing Asteroids and Missile Command for a couple of hours now. Ahhh the good ol' days! :)

What, no Pitfall? jumping on those alligator heads was fun. Damn the snakes and brick walls though - and missing those swinging vines...

Emulators

You can play all the old Atari 2600 games on your PC with emulators like these.

The ROM images of hundreds of games shouldn't be hard to find. I've also played with other emulators like Nesticle for the original Nintendo, Snes9x for Super Nintendo, and arcade emulators like mame32, Raine and Callus. I don't know what the latest and greatest emulators are now, but these were pretty impressive years ago.

Pitfall was put out by ActiVision. I remember they always had better graphics than the Atari-brand games.

Star Raiders? good times!

Never played on the 2600, but he original for the Atari 400/800 Computers was the $hit!
Hell I still have a working Atari 800 and a Star Raiders cartridge.

Activision

Actually, Activision has a copmilation disc too. it has Pitfall, Chopper Command, River riders 1 & 2 plus a crap load of other games. I am really diggin' this Atari deal though. It has an "extras" feature for each game with what the box looked like front and back, the cartridge art, all the instructions are readable, and flyers/promos for the games. The arcade versions also have pics of the machines and when you play, there is an option for the buttons and stuff to be put on the bottom of the screen like you were at the machine itself. There are also clips with the developer of Pong. He has an intresting view on video games. for under $20 new, this game is worth it to anyone from the 80's.

They forgot the #1 game.......
Space Invaders...
In 1981, I mastered that game, so that I could make a "run" that would last an hour or two before my brain started to melt out of my ears.

not all activision games had good graphics. anyone remember boxing?

atari's "adventure" has not been mentioned (the hidden keys, the other "tricks")

of course everyone remembers the "double fire" on space invaders (hold reset down while turning on unit).

I remember seeing pong (not atari 2600 but the original quarter to play) in the lounge of a bar .

anyone seen the retro memory sticks where they shove em in a 2600 cartridge? they're hot I tell you...and you are less likely to misplace them also.

remember the day you found out your first joystick was broken? bum out city....

yeah but do you remember the song space invaders?

they used to play it on dr. dimento. i think its weird al yankovic

"he's hooked he's hooked, his brain is cooked.......spaaaaccee invaders"

I loved that game. The original arcade is really sweet but you rarely rarely see one. I did play Galaga last night, that's my favorite arcade game of all time.
