My Powertap SL hub is becoming audibly "scratchy..." I'm guessing its the bearings. I was wondering if this had any effect on riding, wheel performance. I ask because I have a couple races this weekend and would rather not worry about it exploding on me. Thanks!

Yes and no. Yes, if the bearings need maintenance they will slow you down. However, bearing drag from the rear wheel is such a low part of overall drag that it won't slow you down that much. The real problem is if you toasted your SL by neglecting maintenance.
