Dropped something I was putting in a cabinet. Picked it up and raised up. The door had swung partially closed which resulted in a nice noggin floggin'. Everything went black for a couple seconds and I thought I was going down for the count so I just sat down. Now, a few minutes later, I have a fine goose-egg on my coconut to go along with the embarrassment of doing something that brilliant. Fun stuff.

P.S. The Shining is on right now and this is the first time I've noticed that when Jack asks Lloyd for a bottle of bourbon, a glass and some ice, Lloyd gives him a bottle of Jack Daniels. Bad Lloyd and unobservant me.

P.P.S. Cold, rainy days off work are kinda boring and now I have a headache... maybe I should spend some time with the home cocktail bar I've been working on. :D

I did the same exact thing a few years ago. It triggered a horrible TMJ flare-up a couple days later that had me going to the dentist because I couldn't close my mouth the whole way.

It sucked and now I'm more careful.

Sounds like you handled it quite a bit better than me. I usually come up off the floor like I got cold clocked by someone in a bar. The cabinet door probably would have been ripped clean off and stomped on. My wife always points out that she wants me to change this part of my personality, but I hate things hitting me in the head. Anywhere else, all right, head. . .must. .. .kill . . .inanimate. . .object!

That's how my parents got a new fridge. I was getting stuff out of the freezer, stood up, and it put me on the floor. Stood up and kicked the door off the hinges. On one hand, the one hit KO was kind of awesome. On the other hand, good god, that decimated my new bike fund.

I used to punch, then I discovered the joy of the hammer. No piece of furniture in my old apartment had a sharp corner left on it. After a while, I started keeping the hammer further and further away, so it'd take me longer to get to it and I'd have time to cool off. Then I upgraded to a mini sledge. Just picking it up makes you think a bit deeper into what you're about to do.
Now, if after finding the hammer and walking back to the offending object, I'm still agro enough to have a knock at it, I figure it truly deserves it. And the mini sledge will do actual structural damage, rather than just cosmetic. Nothing worse than having a swing and not getting full satisfaction.

You are now my role model in this field.

heh heh, when I was about 10 I got in huge trouble and had all my woodworking tools taken away because I dropped something on the floor under the table with the marble top and when I got up I hit my head. I just happened to have a hammer in my hand which I used to knock the offending corner across the room :)

Yep, a little pain is worth it to hang with the cool kids. :D

Destroying the pain-causing object used to be my reaction as well. I still have the initial instinct to do that but years of experience have taught me that it usually hurts my bank account much worse than it hurts the object. Sometimes I remember that, sometimes I don't. This time I was temporarily having a tough time staying alert and on my feet so the door survived and won the round.
