Fall, early winter

During the fall and early winter shops often are still trying to close out inventory on that year's models. Plus not many people are shopping for bikes at that time, so the shops can use some cash flow. The downside, of course, is that you'll find limited supplies in terms of models, sizes, colors, etc. But if you can find what you want in a 2008 model in November, or even better, after the holidays, it usually will be a good discount from its price last spring.

If you already know what you are looking for, start looking for your bargains right now. With gas prices being so high, bikes sales are up this season. A lot of mid and high end 08s are already being discounted at retailers. Some manufacturers are out of 08s and have already started shipping 09s (with the previously stated price increases). Once you find what you're looking for in your size, ask about how many the retailer has in stock. If their inventory is low, buy it on the spot. If you don't, Murphy's law applies: somebody your size will come in and buy that exact bike after you go home to think about it.:mad2:
