In recognition of having survived 58 years on the planet (today's my birthday) and the 12- month anniversary of my cancer surgery (everything's fine now), I ordered a custom Serotta HSG carbon as a present to myself. I have officially joined the ranks of old fat guys with more money than talent. I saw the frame in the shop yesterday and she's a beauty. They should have it built up for me in another week and I'll post some shots then.

Meanwhile, I'm off to observe my birthday tradition. I try to ride 1 mile for each year of my age - so I need to do 58 today. It's sunny in Chicago, but rain and snow are forecast for later, so we'll see how that goes.

Thanks to everyone here who shared their thoughts on the prostate cancer treatments and on my new ride selection.

Too bad your birthday wasn't yesterday. Great day for riding in Chicago. I got out for 25 miles (my longest so far for this year). Today though, with the wind, and rain were supposedly getting, I'm impressed that your going out. Hope you have a good ride.

oh yeah, and Hapee Burfdai!

So I finally got some shots back from my photographer friend. Jeez I love this bike. Thanks to Adam and the guys at Get-a-Grip Cycles in Chicago.

One more ...

And just in case anybody thinks it's just great sculpture and not a working bike, here's one more taken after my first ride.

Bad form, Specialized bag on a non Specialized bike.

That is one sweet ride, and a great B-day gift.

I'm sure it's a great bike, but I just can't get excited about carbon fiber anymore. They all look exactly the same. Now if you'd have bought a custom steel bike...

I can't get excited about carbon or steel. Aluminum is where it's at.

the red cable ferrules are a small but great touch! And red labels on the black DT Swiss hubs? You thought of everything, man.

Even from a non-carbon guy, I have to say it's a sweeeet ride.

What, no Campy Record?
SRAM red would have been a nice choice also. Nothing really wrong with any of the three choices. Personal preference.

Keep it clean. We don't want to have this thread moved to GENERAL.
