After Saturdays adventure in the boonies of Maryland and Pennsylvania we were looking for an easy recovery cruise. And something to eat.

Lots of something to eat.

We had a beautiful breakfast at the Waffle House (seems no one bothered to clean our bikes while we were sleeping!).

Rode to and through the Antietam Battlefield. Quite the sobering place when you think about how many men died in so short a time. Bloody Lane indeed.

Then treated ourselves to lunch somewhere in West Virginia.

A Sunday well spent.

As much as you guys ride, I'd expect to see some dust on those tubes.

The Civil War battlefields are sobering ... what madness ... and the warfare was unbelievable ... the courage of those men is hard to understand.

The Bloody Lane. What hallowed ground. That and the Cornfield are the most blood-soaked terrain on this continent. Gettysburg and Shilloh are close, but the carnage was more consentrated at Antietam. The sacrifice there was indeed unimaginable and really puts our present "problems" in perspective. Your pictures convey the beauty and solemnity of that battlefield. Looks like a great day for riding as well.

Miss M and have ridden through all three of those battlefields. As we were riding back from Antietam this Sunday we discussed which battlefield has the "Spookiest" feel.

I used to think it was Gettysburg and Shiloh was impressive indeed since we saw it at sunset. But for all around strong feelings Antietam is our choice.
