I've recently discovered Boston Legal. William Shatner is freakin' BRILLIANT in it. BRILLIANT! It's the perfect role for him. The show is funny as hell.

FWIW, YMMV, HTH

I've seen it a few times and I've really liked it. The Shat's crazy on this show. Saw an episode where they made a Klingon joke and he played it totally straight faced. Great show.

Noooo.... he's amazing on this show. Best role ever.... better than Classic Kirk. He's a deadpan pardody of himself and it's funny, very funny.

I typically don't like that type of show but it's just damned funny.

The humor is so dry and deadpan. I'm trying to get my wife to watch it but she's like Svend and won't watch him on principle.

If you haven't watched it yet, give it two episodes. I'd be very surprised if you didn't like it.

Svend, you have to like lawyer shows to like boston legal. If you dont, fugetaboudit. If you do, give it a few episodes. Shatner really is good (compared to priceline commercials anyway).

Thats who the other guy is! I've been trying to think of his name. He has put on a few pounds but I knew I recognized him.

Yes! Candice Bergen does as well. The three of them are excellent together.

I think they jumped the shark this season, so far as the plots go.

But yes, Spader and Shatner's relationship is the best part of the show for sure. They are the only characters with depth, the rest are simple and cardboard, with nothing beyond a rough sketch of who they are (older liberal partner woman, stick up the butt partner, confused first year associate... etc).

Must disagree with the disparagement of TJ Hooker. This was Shatner's unsung zenith. Though lost on many, the way he played a tortured soul who lost his marriage over his work and whose closest associates were prostitutes and street thugs, was brilliant. The fact that he would risk his own pitiful existence to stop crime by jumping onto the hood of a moving car wasn't mere 80's superfluous stuntery, it was the clearest indication that Hooker was a trouble d soul who valued his life so little that he threw caution to the wind.

Oh yeah, don't diss tj hooker.

well, I love the Shat man myself too, though more in a platonic sort of fatherly love way as opposed to a greek socratic or laotian houseboy kinda love.......so no real dis intended.....the man just didn't have the quality material of ST nor the hot alien relations which is what we all loved about the character anyway.......our TV just isn't on very much anymore but I may record a few episodes of BL and check it.....

I think probably people who don't appreciate Boston Legal are people who lack the sophistication to appreciate the level of irony in the dialogue. I mean Spader quotes Nietzsche, alludes to Schopenhauer and Kant, and gets into a metaphor about Magritte with a girl who can't smile.

Maybe a bit ethereal for the buffalo wings bucket and Monday football viewer . . .
